3 Things You Have to Do/Try in CDMX

Mexico City is a destination that's steeped in rich history and culture, and there are plenty of things to see and do in this vibrant metropolis. From the ancient water canals of Xochimilco to the bustling streets of the historic center, there's no shortage of sights and experiences to enjoy. And of course, no visit to Mexico City would be complete without indulging in the city's famous food scene.

Hi! My name is Daniel Narred. I am a local from Mexico City here to share three things you have to do and try for visitors going to Mexico City. (Youtube video linked below)

Xochimilco

Ready to party on a boat along the canals of Xochimilco? This place is a borough that is located on the outskirts of Mexico City. It is most known for the canal where visitors can hire colorful gondola-like boats. I highly recommend that every visitor

must check out this authentic experience. It is essentially a party boat where you listen to mariachi music and dance along the canal. Visitors can hire boats that can seat up to 18 people. There are plenty of boats available to hire once you arrive. You are allowed to bring your own snacks, drinks, and a speaker however you can also purchase snacks, drinks, and souvenirs along the ride.

Historic Center

As a retired tour guide, my favorite part and place to show visitors was the historic center for its rich culture and history. I highly recommend visiting the historic center to get a taste of our history. It is home to some of the city's most iconic landmarks, including the stunning Metropolitan Cathedral and the ruins of the Templo Mayor. Visitors can take a walking tour of the area and explore the rich history and architecture of the city, including the Aztec ruins beneath the streets. There are also plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants to enjoy, making it a great place to spend a day exploring the city.

Food

Mexico City is known for its amazing food scene, and visitors should take advantage of the opportunity to sample some of the local dishes. I love the food markets to find the most variety, best options, and inexpensive options! My favorite markets are Mercado de San Juan and La Merced. These markets are great places to shop around for clothes, jewelry, souvenirs, and more.

From street food to upscale restaurants, there's something for everyone in the city. Whenever I come back home to visit, the first thing I do is go to a taqueria and enjoy tacos. Some must-try dishes include tacos al pastor, chilaquiles, and tamales.

From exploring the ancient canals of Xochimilco to taking in the history and architecture of the historic center, there's so much to see and do in this amazing city. And with the incredible range of local cuisine on offer, visitors are sure to find something that they love. So why not plan a trip to Mexico City and experience all that this amazing destination has to offer?
